Here We Are
Photography by Andrew Dosunmu
Throughout the African diaspora, one thing that unites us is the element of poetry. I’m not talking about art per se, though of course there is that, too. It’s in the way we arrange words, in how we adorn our bodies, the swing of our gait, the meter of our relationships, the cadence of our everyday lives. I feel this poetic heritage everywhere I go, and I imagine the conversations that the people in these images are having with each other across languages and locales – from Benin to Bolivia, Kinshasa to Kuala Lumpur – in our shared subconscious.
